I’m abroad and can’t connect to a network, what do I do?
We’re sorry that your mobile isn’t connecting, try these troubleshooting tips to get you back connected:
1. Check your international and roaming settings
You must have these switched on in your UW account to roam. See a full guide
2. Check your device roaming settings and restart your handset
Found in your mobile handset settings, make sure you’ve turned your roaming on here too. Then, restart your device.
For iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Mobile Data Options → Data Roaming
For Android: Settings → WiFi & Internet → SIM & Network → SIM → Roaming
3. Try connecting to a different roaming network in your device settings.
For iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Network Selection. Switch off the 'Automatic' toggle. Select a network from the list available. If you’re already connected to one, select a different network.
For Android*: Go to Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Network operators. Switch off the 'Select automatically' toggle. Select a network from the list available. If you’re already connected to one, select a different network.
*settings for Android devices may differ, try searching for 'Network' in your device settings.
4. If you’re on Budget Control, check you’ve got enough credit
You can check your
and top-up via the UW app, or by visiting ‘’ → Services → Mobile and selecting your chosen mobile number.5. On Budget Control and wanting to make international calls?
If you’ve got enough credit and still can’t make calls, make sure you’ve got your ‘International Call Cap’ switched off to stop your account from blocking international call charges.
Follow the steps above in My account → SIM settings → Roaming and international. You can turn off the cap here.
