How do I get a smart meter upgrade?

There’s a huge demand for smart meters right now, and only a limited number of engineers to install them. This means we can’t offer everyone an appointment right away. 

When our engineers are operating in your area, we’ll send you a message to let you know. 

Once you receive an invite from us, book your appointment as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. 

In the meantime, register your interest

You can register your interest in a smart meter

. That way, we’ll know you’re waiting and can prioritise you when engineers are available in your area.

What happens when I book?

We'll ask you a few questions about your home and your existing meters. 

Once booked, our expert engineer will visit you on your chosen day. The upgrade usually takes around two to three hours.

Having problems booking an appointment?

If we’ve sent you an invite to book an appointment, but you’re having problems doing this, please call us on 0333 005 6555. 

If we haven’t sent you an invite yet, there may be no appointments available in your area. We’ll let you know when you can book. 

Do I need to be home for the appointment?

It doesn’t need to be yourself or the account holder, but an adult (18+ years old) does need to be in for the whole duration of the smart meter appointment. Even if your meters are outside, the engineers will need access to the main fuse switch and internal connections.

We’ll ask for the best contact details when you book your appointment.
