How do I read my smart meter?

Your meter readings are sent to us automatically, so you don't have to read your meter and can use your smart meter display to keep an eye on your energy use from day to day. In the unlikely event you do need to send us your meter readings – here's how to read them:

Aclara Meters

Electricity

  • Locate the reading menu by pressing button B until you see 'Total...' or 'TOU...' displayed.

  • This means that you're in the 'Reads' menu. Now press button A to scroll through the 'Reads' menu. You'll see options called 'Total Active Import kWh', 'Total Active Export kWh', 'TOU Rate 1' etc.

  • The meter reading that's used for your billing is "TOU Rate 1" for single-rate tariffs, and both "TOU Rate 1" (Daytime) and "TOU Rate 2" (Nightime) for two-rate tariffs.

Flonidan Meters

Gas

  • Press and hold any button to wake up the display.

  • The "normal" and default* display is the V i.e. Total Volume in m3. eg: V 00135.440 m3

  • Take the value ignoring any digits after the decimal point. Eg 00135

  • Submit 00135 as the gas meter reading

* The display can be switched between V (m3) & Meter balance £ using the left-hand button which is marked "A" shown on the display as "BAL" or "VOL"

EDMI Meters

Electricity

  • Light up the Display by pressing any button.

  • Press and hold the "Right/OK" button to enter Menu Mode

  • Navigate to "MAIN BILLING" and enter the menu by holding the "Right/OK" button

  • Navigate to "BILL ADVANCD" and enter the menu.

  • Navigate to "ADVNC TOUMTRX" and enter the menu

  • Scroll through the menu to find the readings

  • The meter reading that's used for your billing is "RT 1" for single-rate tariffs, and both "RT 1" (Daytime) and "RT 2" (Nightime) for two-rate tariffs.

Gas

Hold down the 'OK' button on the meter. The screen will light up and display the reading. Take the reading ignoring any digits after a decimal point.

Honeywell Meters

Electricity

  • Press the "Top pushbutton" to enter Menu Mode

  • Using the "Bottom pushbutton" navigate to "Registers" menu

  • Press the "Top pushbutton" to enter the "Registers" menu

  • Using the "Bottom pushbutton" navigate to "Rates 1-48" menu and then press the "Top pushbutton" to enter the menu

  • In this menu you will be shown all the registers on your meter and their associated meter readings. You can navigate to different registers by pressing the "Bottom pushbutton". The "Top pushbutton" will take you back to the previous screen.

  • The meter reading that's used for your billing is "Imp. R1 for single-rate tariffs, and both "Imp. R1" (Daytime) and "Imp. R2" (Nightime) for two-rate tariffs.

Gas

  • Press and hold any button to wake up the display.

  • Use the "left" or "right" button to navigate to "Tariff Information" and use the "Select" button to enter this screen.

  • In this screen you will be presented with the values associated with each "Rate" (1-4) and you can navigate between rates by pressing the "left" or "right" buttons

  • For each rate, take its associated value ignoring any numbers after a decimal point.

  • Add all the values together to get the "Total" and submit this as your gas reading.

L&G Meters

Electricity

Press the A button to illuminate the screen and display your reading in kWh- this is the import reading. If you have a two-rate meter then you can get your second reading and the total by pressing the A button a second time and third time.

Gas

Press button A to cycle through the screen until you see the meter index screen which will have the reading on it.

Secure meters

Gas

  • Press 9 on your gas meter keypad.

  • 'VOLUME' will appear on your gas smart meter screen.

  • You'll see five digits e.g 01234 followed by 'm3' at the bottom right of the screen.

  • This figure is your latest reading.

Electricity

  • Press 6 on your electricity meter keypad four times.

  • '+IMP RO1+' will appear on your electricity smart meter screen.

  • You'll see eight digits e.g 0002345.6 followed by 'kWh' at the bottom right of the screen. This figure is your latest reading - if you're giving us a reading, we only need the first seven digits i.e before the decimal point.

  • If you're on an E7 tariff, take note of the '+IMP RO2+' reading too

Liberty 110 Electricity

We normally install this type of smart meter if you use storage heaters.

  • Press 9 on your electricity meter keypad.

  • Your smart electricity meter will show either 'NIGHT' or 'DAY'.

  • You'll see eight digits e.g 0002345.6 followed by 'kWh' at the bottom right of the screen.

  • This figure is the latest reading for your day or night rate - if you're giving us a reading, we only need the first seven digits i.e before the decimal point.
