£400 Energy Bills Support Scheme

We worked with the Government to make sure every household with a domestic electricity meter received their £400 payment from the Energy Bills Support Scheme.

The scheme ended on 30 June 2023, with final payments made in March 2023. Vouchers must have been redeemed by 30 June 2023 when the Energy Bill Support Scheme (EBSS) funded by HM Government came to a close. All unclaimed vouchers after this date are now invalid and no replacements can be issued.

How did the Energy Bills Support Scheme scheme work?

The £400 payment was paid to every household with a domestic electricity meter automatically over six instalments, starting in October 2022.

Households saw a discount from the Government of £66 applied to their energy costs in October and November, rising to £67 each month from December through to March 2023.

The non-repayable discount from the Government was provided on a monthly basis regardless of whether consumers paid monthly, quarterly, had a prepayment meter, or an associated payment card.

Do I need to repay the money?

No, the Energy Bills Support Scheme is a non-repayable discount from the Government to eligible households to help with energy bills.

However, if you switched suppliers or moved out of a UW supplied property while the scheme was running (October 2022 - March 2023), you may have been paid one month’s worth of EBSS twice. Once by us and again by your new supplier. If this is the case, we'll issue you a bill to recover the payment.
