What is port forwarding?

Port forwarding on a router allows you to allocate a port number or a range of port numbers to devices on your network. Any connections your router receives with the matching port number will be forwarded to that device.

With a UW router, you shouldn't need to open any ports manually for most devices as Universal Plug and Play (UPNP) is enabled, this will allow your devices to tell the router which ports to open.

Here are a few examples of when it might be used:

  • Email servers

  • Hosting game servers

  • Web Servers

There are also guides available on the internet such as portforward.com but if you need help setting up port forwarding please contact our Technical Support team.
