Do I need a static IP?

Most modern services will provide you with access to your systems using specific apps or software that allow you to log in without needing a Static IP. For example, many CCTV systems now allow remote access by using their own apps (e.g. Arlo, Ring etc).

However, there are more complicated systems that require your public IP address to remain the same (i.e. ‘static’), so that you can access services within your network. Examples of this may be a VoIP service, your own dedicated email server, or other web services. In these circumstances, you’ll need a static IP address.
