What happens if I cancel my Direct Debit?

Here at UW, we want to enable our customers to get on with the things that really matter in life. And we know having to remember to pay your bill is not one of them.

If you already have a Direct Debit set up and are thinking about cancelling it, remember that by cancelling your Direct Debit you’ll:

  • Risk late payment charges.

  • Lose your reduced energy rate – you’ll pay extra for paying by cash or cheque, reflecting the additional costs to bill customers that don't pay by monthly Direct Debit. On average our customers save £131 a year on their energy rates by having a Direct Debit in place (total savings depend on energy usage).

  • Wait longer for any refunds you’re eligible for.

  • Lose

(which includes immediate refunds for errors in payments and at least three working days’ notice of changes in payment amounts or dates).

  • Have your Budget Plan automatically cancelled. If you still want to spread your energy cost over the year in equal amounts – and therefore avoid paying far more in the winter months – you’ll need to contact us to set your Budget Plan back up.

If you have more than 1 service with us, your Direct Debit cancellation will apply across all of your UW services.

If you’ve already cancelled your Direct Debit, you can easily set it back up in just a few clicks in the UW app or your

.
